As announced last week, Margaret Atwood will write a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, due to publish in hardcover and as an ebook on September 10, 2019.

Her new book The Testaments* is set 15 years after Offred’s final scene in The Handmaid’s Tale and is narrated by three female characters. Atwood made a statement to her readers: “Everything you’ve ever asked me about Gilead and its inner workings is the inspiration for this book. Well, almost everything! The other inspiration is the world we’ve been living in.”

Publisher Nan A. Talese shared her thoughts on the upcoming sequel: “I have published Margaret Atwood’s work since 1976—her poetry, fiction and nonfiction. A manuscript from her is always a reason for joy. She writes wonderfully and has a mind like a steel trap. This new book is no exception.”

Can’t wait until September? Take a look at the timeline below for the full catalogue of Atwood’s work.
