2016 National Book Award Winner: The Underground Railroad

THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD by Colson Whitehead, which chronicles a young slave’s adventures as she makes a desperate bid for freedom in the antebellum South, was honored as the 2016 National Book Award Winner in Fiction. In nonfiction, the finalists included BLOOD IN THE WATER: THE ATTICA PRISON UPRISING OF 1971 AND ITS LEGACY by Heather Ann Thompson.
