Una maestra llega a la escuelita y varias vidas cambian. A new teacher arrives and lives at the school are changed: the dozen or so kids clamoring for cookies and soda, who advance from scribbling to cursive, from playing with beads to doing sums, and from throwing spitballs to writing poetry; Dylan, who climbs up angrily to the roof one day; and the teacher herself, newly arrived from a small provincial town and trying to supplement her wages as a waitress.
From afar, the City looks like a castle. Up close, it’s an impregnable fortress. As the days go by, as class follows class, the teacher’s life slowly transforms. The children grow up; the teenagers mature and become parents themselves; and Dylan, who once saved a puppy from drowning and nursed an orphaned baby bird back to health, searches for solace after falling from his own nest.
With humor, tenderness, and the utmost delicacy, Marie Gouiric asks who is the teacher and who the student when a person dedicates themselves selflessly to others.
