Frank Castle is a one-man army locked, loaded and ready to take down anyone in his way.

The Punisher makes his return by eliminating the ruthless Ma Gnucci’s crime family — pursued by the NYPD’s two-detective Punisher Task Force, crazed contract killer the Russian and super hero Daredevil…and emulated by three copycat killers who want to join forces with him. The over-the-top action builds toward a showdown in the apartment building Frank shares with his colorful fellow residents. Castle must survive to finish his vendetta, making sure his neighbors aren’t caught in the crossfire while evil is punished. With this series, writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon — together with inker Jimmy Palmiotti and iconic cover artist Tim Bradstreet — gave the Punisher a redefining fresh start that once more made him a force to be reckoned with!

COLLECTING: Punisher (2000) #1-12.
Garth Ennis has been writing comics since 1989. His credits include Preacher, Hitman, The Boys and the war series Battlefields and War Story, as well as successful runs on The Punisher and Fury for Marvel Comics. Originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, Ennis now resides in New York City with his wife, Ruth.

The late artist Steve Dillon had his first paying work at age 16 for the UK-based Hulk Weekly magazine. Like many of his British contemporaries, Dillon honed his skills on the legendary 2000AD. In 1993, Dillon joined writer Garth Ennis on DC/Vertigo’s Hellblazer. Their work earned overwhelming praise from the title’s devoted fan base and led to a second collaboration on Preacher, which earned an “A” grade from Entertainment Weekly and was later turned into a TV series on AMC. After Preacher’s 66-issue run, Dillon again teamed with Ennis on a revival of Marvel’s classic antihero, Punisher. Dillon later illustrated Daniel Way’s Wolverine: Origins, Ennis’ Punisher: War Zone, Mark Millar’s Ultimate Avengers and Jason Aaron’s PunisherMAX. Dillon again drew Frank Castle for Marvel NOW! in the relaunched Thunderbolts and later in All-New, All-Different Marvel’s The Punisher.
“When I think of the Punisher, I think of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. Theirs is the definitive run and partnership, and Welcome Back, Frank is one of the great chapters in comics storytelling — a blend of gritty noir, dark intelligence, unrelenting action, gore-drenched mayhem and a necessary dash of mad-hatter humor.” – Benjamin Percy, award-winning author of The Ninth Metal, Red Moon, and The Dead Lands and writer of Punisher, Wolverine, X-Force, and Ghost Rider

“Garth Ennis’s legendary run on The Punisher begins here, in this hilarious, violent, heart-tugging volume. Trust me, you want to read it right now. And get a haircut!” – Stuart Moore, author of Captain America for Dummies and Thanos: Death Sentence and New York Times Best-Selling co-author of The Zodiac Legacy with Stan Lee

Welcome Back, Frank is a near-perfect synthesis of everything that makes the Punisher entertaining, while never quite forgetting how reprehensible he can be. There’s a reason it’s often cited as the character’s finest hour.” – AIPT
