Cada diciembre, abuelita Lupita le cuenta a Rosa la historia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. Mientras ambas hacen flores de papel para colocar alrededor de su estatua, abuelita comienza: Hace mucho tiempo, durante una fría mañana de diciembre, cerca de lo que hoy es la Ciudad de México, un señor llamado Juan Diego se puso su tilma y comenzó a caminar…      
         Durante su camino, Juan Diego se encuentra con una hermosa Señora rodeada de luz, cuyo manto cubierto de estrellas, brilla. Ella le pide que visite al obispo y le diga que construya una iglesia en su nombre.  
         Pero Juan Diego no es un hombre rico o con influencia. ¿Cómo podrá convencer al obispo que la hermosa Señora apareció frente a él? Y cuando el obispo le exige una prueba, ¿cómo podrá Juan Diego pedirle una seña a la Señora?
El milagro de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe es la manifestación de la Virgen María más conocida de las Américas. La célebre autora Pat Mora, junto con los premiados ilustradores Steve Johnson y Lou Fancher traen esta historia tan querida en México y el resto del mundo a los lectores pequeños por medio de una prosa lírica que invita a la lectura e ilustraciones sensacionalmente vivas.

An award-winning author of children’s books, poetry, and nonfiction, Pat Mora is committed to bringing together all children with books. She often speaks at conferences, universities, and schools about creative writing, leadership, and multicultural education. She also works with national organizations on Día de los niños/Día de los libros, an April 30th celebration of childhood, books, languages, and cultures.  Born in El Paso, Texas, Mora has received numerous children’s book awards. In 2002 she was honored as a "Literary Light for Children” by the Associates of the Boston Public Library and included in “100 Library Champions” during the Texas Library Association’s Centennial.  Mora has been the Carruthers Chair, Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of New Mexico; a consultant on US-Mexico youth exchanges; an administrator and museum director at her alma mater, the University of Texas at El Paso; and has taught English at all levels. The proud mother of three grown children, she divides her time between Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area. Lou Fancher and Steve Johnson have worked as a creative team for over 26 years, producing illustrations for annual reports, brochures, posters, movies, advertisements, book covers, and magazines. Together they have illustrated over 50 children’s books, including Dr. Seuss's My Many Colored Days, Garrison Keillor's Cat, You Better Come Home, and Jon Scieszka's The Frog Prince, Continued. Their 2000 release, I Walk At Night, was recognized as one of the New York Times's Best Illustrated Books. They are the recipients of a gold medal from the Society of Illustrators and have been recognized by Communication Arts, Print, and Graphis. Lou and Steve provided set and character development for Pixar’s Toy Story and A Bug’s Life.
