Doodle Free-For-All 159
INTRODUCTION

All through the ages, humans have doodled. In prehistoric times, they doodled on cave walls. As technology progressed, they began to doodle on stone tablets. Eventually, the art of doodling moved to the margins of loose-leaf paper, which was generally unappreciated by teachers trying to grade homework assignments. And there, the art of doodling languished—until now.

Recently, there has been a hue and cry for doodling. I’m not exactly sure what a “hue” is, but I recognize the sound when my readers cry. Therefore, I knew I had to do something—and fast. So I finished my cup of coffee, poured myself a second cup, finished reading the paper, and then sprang into action!

I discovered that manga, that amazingly popular style of Japanese comics, which features an irresistible array of characters, visual icons, and design motifs, could satisfy the demands of even the most dedicated doodler.

This book, the second in my series of interactive Doodletopia titles, brings you buckets of fun characters to draw, doodle, and color, plus cool projects, including many that you can use outside of this book, such as designs for your own personal stationery, bookmarks, emoticons, and more.

Doodletopia: Manga
is your ticket to a world of creativity. Each chapter gives you a head start with visual prompts so that you can complete manga mascots, adorable animals, silly chibis, eye-catching designs, and more.

You may try to resist the pull of manga doodles. But if you are reading this introduction, it’s already too late. The only thing that will help now is a pencil, and a tabletop to place this book on. Welcome aboard, fellow manga doodler!
